MOSCOW, 22 February (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia held interdepartmental consultations on the bilateral intergovernmental memorandum of understanding on biological safety in Moscow on 20 February, BelTA learned from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The parties exchanged their assessments of threats to biological safety at the international and regional levels. Particular attention was paid to the military biological activities of the United States on the territory of Ukraine. The parties reviewed the implementation of the bilateral intergovernmental memorandum of understanding on biological safety, and looked into the specific areas for further cooperation. Ways of optimizing and increasing the effectiveness of the work to implement the document, including through the formation of an appropriate consultative mechanism, were considered," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"The meeting confirmed the unity of approaches of Russia and Belarus to the problems of biological safety. The parties highlighted the need for further close coordination and constructive cooperation both in a bilateral format and in multilateral organizations, primarily within the framework of the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxin Weapons and the UN General Assembly, the CSTO and the CIS," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
