MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – Western elites have not learned the lessons of World War II, Belarus’ Prosecutor General Andrei Shved said during the 13th edition of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum. The broadcast of the event is available on the forum's website, BelTA has learned.

“I believe that this topic is more relevant than ever given the processes taking place in the world today. People from the West came here in 1941 to kill everyone indiscriminately. The West has recently launched a new crusade driven by Nazi ideology,” Andrei Shved said.

The prosecutor general noted that today there is no one in the Western political establishment to discuss this issue, as direct descendants of the fascist executioners are largely in charge in the West.

“Speaking about the lessons of World War II (or the Great Patriotic War for us), it is very important to explain to our youth and children what Nazism is. If we put [this understanding] into the heart and soul of every child, then we will live on,” Andrei Shved said. He added that now a war for the future is going on.

Andrei Shved noted that a lot of work is being done to determine the scale of the genocide on Belarusian soil during the war. Colleagues from the Investigative Committee and other Russian agencies help to obtain irrefragable, legally significant evidence. “I am sure that the time will come for second Nuremberg Trials. It will definitely happen. Because evil must always be punished,” the prosecutor general emphasized.

The St. Petersburg International Legal Forum is the largest platform for dialogue between representatives of the legal, business and law enforcement communities. It is meant to address a wide range of issues focusing on how law can better serve the interests of people and businesses. It also discusses improvements to law-enforcement practices, the promotion of legislative initiatives to strengthen the legal culture, and regulation of socioeconomic matters in today’s world. The forum is held by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation and the Roscongress Foundation.
