
MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) - Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova and Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko left entries in the book of condolence for Pope Francis at the Apostolic Nunciature in Minsk, BelTA learned.
Natalya Kochanova expressed deep condolences on behalf of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and herself. “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the entire Christian world in connection with the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. Pope Francis will be forever remembered as a great guardian of peace, a steadfast supporter of interfaith dialogue. We deeply value his service to God and humanity, his kind attitude toward Belarus. Pope Francis made an invaluable contribution to ensuring social equality and justice. He dedicated his entire life to strengthening faith and humanity. May his soul rest in peace, and may his unique legacy continue to live on and inspire others to do good deeds,” she wrote.

Igor Sergeyenko extended condolences on behalf of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus. He emphasized that Pope Francis was a humble man devoted to the ideals of service, who affirmed humanistic values through his words and actions and united people worldwide. “Belarusian parliamentarians received the news of the passing of Pope Francis with deep sorrow. Humble and faithful to the ideals of service, His Holiness always adhered to undeniable humanistic values in his messages, preaching love for one's neighbor, compassion, and mercy. Pope Francis was sincerely loved by millions who supported his calls for social justice, unity, understanding and peace. We will hold him in the highest regard for his character and deeds,” Igor Sergeyenko wrote.

Pope Francis passed away on 21 April at the age of 89. The pontiff had been hospitalized in Rome for a long period, suffering from bilateral pneumonia. Following prolonged hospitalization, Pope Francis did not lead the pre-Easter rituals and the Easter service at St. Peter's Square.
