MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) – Law enforcement officials from Belarus and Pakistan have discussed joint efforts to counter drug trafficking and terrorism, the Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs told BelTA.

A delegation from the Belarusian MIA led by Minister Ivan Kubrakov is currently visiting the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. On 27 August, Ivan Kubrakov held a working meeting with Pakistan’s Minister of Interior and Narcotics Control Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi. Ivan Kubrakov expressed gratitude for the invitation to visit Pakistan and the opportunity to continue cooperation, which has gained new momentum thanks to the heads of state. “Despite the considerable distance between our countries, we have many common interests, especially in the fight against crime. There is strong potential for developing partnerships in areas such as combating drug trafficking, illegal migration, and terrorism,” he emphasized.

The minister also noted that the Belarusian MIA has extensive experience and a well-established system for training personnel in various specialties for foreign law enforcement agencies, and is ready to provide comprehensive support in this area. Specialized units have already trained groups of officers from different countries. “We are open to any form of cooperation with our Pakistani colleagues,” Ivan Kubrakov concluded.

As part of the meeting, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Andrei Metelitsa and Pakistan’s Secretary Interior and Narcotics Control Muhammad Khurram Agha exchanged ratification instruments for an extradition agreement.

Ivan Kubrakov also met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain. The parties discussed current issues of joint work and exchanged views on the prospects for further cooperation.

The Belarusian delegation visited the National Database and Registration Authority, a government body responsible for citizen identification and digital security. The guests reviewed samples of biometric documents, toured the technical facilities, and learned about the operational experience of their Pakistani counterparts, outlining ways for mutually beneficial cooperation.
