Belarus’ new military doctrine revises approaches to economic support for security measures

MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) – Vladimir Apolonik, the head of the second desk of the Information and Analysis Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus, told BelTA’s The Nation Speaks project how the military component of security has changed in the new military doctrine.

“In line with the new doctrine, the economic support for military security measures is no longer tied to an armed conflict or war, as was the case with the previous edition of the doctrine. Now economic support will be provided to finance measures taken by the state in the event of risks, challenges and threats. All measures should be supported economically, and the new military doctrine spells this out for the first time," said Vladimir Apolonik.

He noted that the previous doctrine focused on preparing the country for defense in the event of a big war. “Now, economic support will be provided for security measures to be taken during low levels of military threats. Even those measures that are taken when there are just risks must also be supported economically,” he emphasized.
