Belarus’ national Christmas tree lights up in Minsk

MINSK, 15 December (BelTA) - A ceremony to light up the country's national Christmas tree was held in Minsk on 15 December, BelTA has learned.

Belarus’ national Christmas tree was lit up to the delighted applause of young and adult residents of Minsk, as well as guests of the capital city.  Simultaneously with this event, the city's festive light illumination was switched on. A total of 28 festive Christmas trees installed in Minsk ahead of the holiday season are now aglow with holiday illumination.

This year, the impressive 30-meter-tall tree is adorned with gold and silver baubles, and also designer elements creating a three-dimensional and lifelike effect. The tree us surrounded by the arches symbolizing the 12 months of the year, each of which is also decorated with vibrant ornaments.
The tree is decorated with 128 garlands of varying length, the Mingorsvet enterprise said.  The total length of the illumination network on the New Year's tree is 3.3 km, or 22,000 light elements, which are integrated into a single complex system. This system enables the execution of various pre-programmed lighting scenarios.
The ceremonial event also marked the launch of the Our Children charity campaign in Minsk. Nationwide, the campaign will run from 15 December 2025 to 14 January 2026.  Alongside the city-wide campaign, similar initiatives were launched in all districts of the capital. “All young residents of Minsk can look forward to a multitude of events. New Year celebrations for children of all categories will be held in every educational institution, every school, kindergarten, and every district of our capital,” said Andrei Strigelsky, Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee.
