Belarus' Gomel Oblast, Uzbekistan's Navoiy Region to cooperate in IT

GOMEL, 7 May (BelTA) - Gomel Oblast of Belarus and Uzbekistan's Navoiy Region plan to develop cooperation in the IT sector, BelTA learned from the press service of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee.

On 6 May, the parties exchanged proposals during an online meeting between Igor Aslyuk, Chairman of the Economy Committee of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee, and Navoiy Region Vice Governor Kamoliddin Hasanov. The representatives of the regions discussed the state of the economy amid the current epidemiological situation, outlined the main areas to further develop bilateral cooperation in trade, economy and investment, as well as in education, tourism and agriculture.

“The parties exchanged actual proposals on mutual supplies of meat, dairy, fruit and vegetable products, promising investment proposals in agriculture and high technology. They also discussed exchange of experience in functioning of technoparks and creation of favorable conditions for the IT sector. There is also interest in developing cooperation in higher education and tourism,” the press service said.

In 2019, representatives of Gomel Oblast and Navoiy Region signed an agreement on cooperation in trade and economic, scientific, technical and humanitarian sectors at the 1st Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan. The partners are interested in developing interregional cooperation.

Gomel Oblast and Uzbekistan maintain mutually beneficial relations in various sectors. In 2020, mutual trade amounted to $17.4 million, up 63.3% from 2019. Belarus exports polymers, dairy products, wallpaper, screws, hardware, and timber to Uzbekistan. Among the exporters are KolorMaster (polyvinyl chloride), Svetlogorsk Welding Electrode Plant (mechanical devices, machine tools), Milkavita, Kalinkovichi Dairy Plant (milk powder), SvetlogorskKhimvolokno (chemical threads). Gomel Oblast enterprises import cotton yarn, unprocessed zinc and lead from Uzbekistan.
