Belarus' Energy Ministry dismisses reports about BelNPP malfunctions

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – Reports by some Telegram channels about the malfunctioning of the cooling system of the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP) are not true, the Belarusian Energy Ministry told BelTA.

“The system is functioning in a normal mode. Regulatory work and tests continue at the first unit as part of the pilot commercial operation phase. The radiation background around the plant is at a safe level,” the press service said.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast using the Russian design AES-2006 featuring two VVER-1200 reactors with the total output capacity of 2,400MW.
