
LANZHOU, 21 May (BelTA) - Gansu Province of China has established friendly twinning relations with Grodno Oblast and Belarusian cities and is effectively developing cooperation by implementing the Belarusian-Chinese agreements at the highest level, Dai Chao, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of Gansu Province, told the media, BelTA has learned.
Dai Chao cited the investment sector as an example: "CGICOP investment projects are a success in Belarus. A large-scale production has been launched on an eco-farm in Minsk. The project has been invested by a machinery manufacturing company from Gansu.”
Dai Chao also touched upon cooperation in the field of Chinese medicine. “The Chinese medicine center established by Gansu in Grodno is the first Chinese medicine center opened in Belarus,” he said.
Speaking about cultural cooperation, the deputy director of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of Gansu Province emphasized: “In 2023, the first deputy culture minister of Belarus was invited to the Silk Road International Cultural Expo in Dunhuang, and the Belarusian folklore band Kupalinka performed at a concert in Lanzhou. In December 2024, the acrobatic troupe of Gansu Province was invited to perform at the show Times of Our Victories.

Cooperation in scientific research and education is also active. “The Gansu Academy of Social Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus have jointly prepared the History of the Development of China-Belarus Friendly Relations. A number of universities and the Gansu Academy of Agricultural Sciences have established cooperation with relevant institutions in Belarus, and made progress in academic research. Exchanges of teachers and students have been established,” Dai Chao said.
Gansu is one of the important provinces of the People's Republic of China with a population of over 24.5 million. The administrative center of the province is Lanzhou, which is home to more than 4.4 million people. Gansu Province is a strategically important land communication hub of the Belt and Road project. It is an industrial base and a comprehensive transportation hub in northwest China. In 2012, the State Council of the People's Republic of China approved Lanzhou New Area, the first state-level new area in northwest China.

In addition, Gansu is an important petrochemical and energy base of China. The chemical industry has become the first pillar industry in Gansu. The Chinese central government pays serious attention to the establishment of infrastructure facilities and the development of alternative energy (hydro, wind, and solar power plants) in the province.
Gansu Province has long been the most important transportation hub and trade corridor between East and West. It is located on a section of the Great Silk Road, which connected China and Central Asia.
