Belarus-China intercultural communications center opens in Pinsk

BREST, 9 November (BelTA) – The Belarus-China Intercultural Communications Center has been set up at Polesie State University, BelTA learned from Head of the Intercultural Communication Department of the university Olga Zhilevich.

The center is equipped with computers and a TV set and boasts a collection of relevant literature. Two Chinese language teachers work at the center. Volunteers – native Chinese speakers – will also give online lessons at the center.

The new facility was established in line with a cooperation program between Polesie State University and Qufu Normal University. The Chinese partners congratulated their Belarusian colleagues on the occasion and expressed readiness to expand cooperation.

“We have cooperated with two Chinese universities for several years. Polesie State University runs a summer school of the Russian language for Chinese students. Our students and teachers went to China to undergo internship and take part in scientific seminars. We have grand plans, but we had to adjust them due to the coronavirus pandemic,” Olga Zhilevich said.

The center is intended for students who major in linguistic support of intercultural communications and management in international tourism. The center will offer Chinese language courses, set up discussion and movie clubs, a calligraphy class, and host seminars and other events.

“This is only the first step. We are planning to launch courses not only for our students, but also for Pinsk residents: school students and adults. The center aims to popularize Chinese culture and provide access to various information resources for all who are interested in learning the Chinese language,” Olga Zhilevich added.
