MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) - Belarus’ National Statistical Committee (Belstat) has already begun preparations for the next population census, Deputy Chairman of Belstat Aleksei Yarkovets said during the 73rd plenary session of the Conference of European Statisticians (CES) in Geneva, BelTA has learned.
When discussing the CES recommendations for conducting population and housing censuses for the 2030 round, which were presented for approval at the plenary session, Aleksei Yarkovets remarked that Belarus is preparing for its 2029 census. Work is underway to improve the legal framework for the census.
“A key innovation of the upcoming census will be the creation of a population statistical register, which will integrate state information systems for tracking individuals and serve as a foundation for future censuses. This register will enable more efficient use of administrative data, streamline the collection of personal information, reduce the burden on respondents, and lower the overall cost of conducting censuses in the future,” the deputy chairman noted.
