MINSK, 3 June (BelTA) – Radiation monitoring data remained unchanged after the launch of the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA learned from Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister Andrei Khudyk.
Andrei Khudyk said: “The radiation situation in Belarus' territory remains stable as a whole. Measurement results confirm the invariability of the radiation monitoring data after the launch of the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.”
An automated system monitors background radiation levels in the area where the Belarusian nuclear power plant is located. The system was set up in 2018 and includes ten automated measurement stations equipped with new-generation sensors. Monitoring data is fed to the Current Data and Emergency Prevention Department of the Radiation Monitoring Service of the National Center for Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Contamination Control, and Environmental Monitoring (Belhydromet) every ten minutes 24/7. If readings exceed specified thresholds, the system will start polling data every minute.
Up-to-date information about radiation readings at the stations of the automated radiation monitoring system and at the industrial site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant can be found on the Belhydromet website (rad.org.by/monitoring/radiation).
