Anfimov:  Presidential election in Belarus attracts great attention in CIS

MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) – The presidential election in Belarus is of great interest in the CIS, Leonid Anfimov, head of the staff of the CIS observation mission at Belarus’ presidential election, told the media, BelTA has learned.

On 9 January, representatives of the CIS observation mission to the presidential election in Belarus met with the leadership of the Supreme Court of Belarus.

“The election [of the president of Belarus] attracts great attention in the Commonwealth of Independent States, given the image of Belarus in the international arena,” Leonid Anfimov said.

“Everything is being done in Belarus to ensure that the country develops in the right direction, that it maintains the stability in society, economy, and social sector. Belarus has countered the unprecedented sanctions and show good results of its economic and social development. I think the people see it and appreciate it,” Leonid Anfimov said.

The CIS observation mission started working in Belarus on 18 December. This is the 13th mission to observe elections and referendums in Belarus and the 130th mission to work in the territory of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The CIS observation mission strictly abides by Belarusian laws, respects the sovereignty of the state, and objectively evaluates the preparation and conduct of the election.

Belarus’ presidential election is scheduled for 26 January 2025.
