MINSK, 25 February (BelTA) – A reboot of the entire system designed to govern the country has begun, BelTA learned from Piotr Petrovsky, a political analyst, member of the scientific advisory board under Belarus’ Central Election Commission (CEC).

Piotr Petrovsky said: “We are electing members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly and members of municipal councils of deputies. It is the first step towards electing a Belarusian People’s Congress according to the new edition of the Constitution. We have essentially started a reboot of the entire government system.”

The analyst recalled that Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko had talked about it as well. “He said plainly that the system will be rebooted. New people will work in new ways with new powers. I think the parliament will have a bigger weight and significance in the society,” he believes.

According to Piotr Petrovsky, the parliament will continue focusing on topical matters such as the counteraction of Western sanctions and efforts to bolster the country’s stability. “The deterioration of the international situation and the world’s division into two camps are not going anywhere. How MPs are going to react to it is a different story. I think the new convocation will have more vivid personalities, people, who show up in mass media. Bearing it in mind, the parliament’s work will become more transparent. It will be constantly discussed and visible,” the analyst is convinced. “It will not be a bunch of individuals that few people know. It will transform us rather profoundly.”
