MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – Around 1,000 Indian students are currently studying at Belarusian universities, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to the Republic of Belarus Ashok Kumar said in an interview with BelTA on the occasion of the national holiday – Republic Day, which the country celebrates on 26 January.
“More and more students from India are coming to Belarus. A large number of Indian medical students receive education at Belarusian state medical universities, undergo professional retraining, and improve their qualifications,” he said. “The vast majority of them study medicine in Minsk, Grodno, Vitebsk, and Gomel.”
The ambassador also noted that Belarus has significantly expanded the range of English-language courses, especially in medicine, to attract even more Indian applicants.
“In my view, educational partnership is a key pillar of humanitarian cooperation, which receives special attention during various Belarus-India meetings, including consultations between foreign ministries. There is also a joint working group on education that deals with cooperation between India and Belarus in this field. Its first meeting was held in 2016, and the next one is planned for this year,” Ambassador Ashok Kumar said.
The ambassador emphasized that India invites Belarusian higher education institutions to cooperate in joint projects and research with their Indian counterparts. “We are also interested in Belarus offering more technical courses, such as engineering, in English, which would increase the number of Indian students coming to study in Belarus,” the diplomat added.
