Agreement on CIS cooperation in preventing spread of locust pests approved in Belarus

MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) – The government has approved an agreement on cooperation between the CIS countries in preventing the spread of locust pests, the Belarusian government’s press service told BelTA.

The relevant resolution was signed by Prime Minister of Belarus Aleksandr Turchin.

The agreement was signed in Minsk on 29 September 2025 in order to reduce the spread of locust outbreaks in the Commonwealth countries, coordinate and implement joint actions by organizations for phytomonitoring and plant protection, and preserve human health and the environment.

The Agriculture and Food Ministry and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus have been designated as the agencies in charge of implementing the agreement while the Main State Inspectorate for Seed Production, Quarantine, and Plant Protection, the Plant Protection Institute, and the Applied Science Center for Bioresources of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus have been put in charge of executing the agreement.

The adoption of the resolution will allow ensuring effective phytomonitoring in the CIS countries, preventing the migration of locust pests and fighting them in addition to strengthening and improving the effectiveness of cooperation in this area.
