MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – CIS First Deputy Secretary General Leonid Anfimov has announced the agenda of an upcoming meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council , BelTA has learned.
"A meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council is scheduled for the end of May. I can't give you the exact date now. The agenda is quite extensive and includes a number of items of strategic importance for the development of the Commonwealth of Independent States," Leonid Anfimov said.
The parties will exchange views on economic cooperation within the CIS, he noted. "A protocol on amendments to the agreement signed back in 2010 on cooperation in developing telemedicine systems will be considered in a broad format," he stressed.
"In addition, three concepts have been submitted for consideration by the CIS Heads of Government Council: on cooperation in energy, chemical industry, hazardous waste management and activities to eliminate the negative impact of accumulated damage on the environment and, accordingly, action plans for their implementation. Two more important issues include the action plan to optimize the transport infrastructure and modernize the transport corridors passing through the territories of the CIS countries, and the plan of priority measures to counter offenses in intellectual property," Leonid Anfimov added.
Minsk is playing host to a joint meeting of the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives and the Commission on Economic Issues under the CIS Economic Council. The participants of the meeting intend to discuss seven items, including the draft agenda of the next meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council, the preparations for the meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council, the status of the roadmap to the economic cooperation initiatives expressed by the heads of delegations during previous meetings of the CIS Heads of State Council, the CIS Heads of Government Council, the CIS Foreign Ministers Council and the Economic Council.
The joint meeting is set to take stock of the activities of the CIS sectoral cooperation bodies in 2023, the Council of Heads of Statistical Services in 2020-2023, to examine the action plan for 2023-2025 to the memorandum on deepening cooperation between the CIS Executive Committee and the Eurasian Economic Commission, the development of commodity markets for medicines of the CIS member states.
