MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) – About 122,000 European tourists have visited Belarus over the course of one year thanks to the expanded visa-free travel program, BelTA learned from the State Border Committee of Belarus.
In line with the Belarus president’s decision the visa-free entry via ground border crossings has been available for citizens of 38 European states since 19 July 2024. Belarus initially waived visas only for residents of Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland as from 15 April 2022. One year ago the list grew larger with 35 European states.
Most of Belarus’ visa-free guests come from Lithuania. The border crossing Kamenny Log at the Lithuanian border welcomes visa-free tourists every day. Senior Lieutenant Anna Bertosh, Deputy Chief of the border control unit Kamenny Log, noted that about 70,000 citizens went through the border crossing to Belarus over one year of the expanded visa-free travel program. “Among them were representatives of Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, the UK, Italy, Germany, and other European countries,” she said.
The State Border Committee of Belarus stressed that since 19 July 2024 a total of about 122,000 European tourists have arrived in Belarus via the four remaining European border crossings that are still open to cars and buses. Over 1.153 million citizens from 38 European countries visited Belarus over the course of three years thanks to the visa-free travel program.
“Belarus remains open to citizens willing to personally get familiar with the history, culture, and traditions of our country. The number of visa-free guests from European states confirms the interest of foreigners in Belarus and helps bolster ties between nations,” the State Border Committee of Belarus noted.
