
VITEBSK, 10 July (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko presented the special award “Through Art to Peace and Understanding” to People’s Artist of Russia, composer Yuri Antonov during the opening ceremony of the 34th edition of the International Arts Festival Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk on 10 July, BelTA learned.

Ahead of the festival’s gala concert, a star in honor of Yuri Antonov was unveiled on the Walk of Fame near the Summer Amphitheater. Yuri Antonov became the 21st artist whose name has been inscribed in the Vitebsk square. This star features the festival’s symbol, a cornflower, and the name of the award recipient.
Yuri Antonov, who turned 80 this year, has long called Belarus his second homeland. His artistic journey began in Molodechno, after which he moved to Minsk, where he joined the Belarusian State Philharmonic as a performer. “I have been performing on stage for 61 years. Belarus played a major role in my artistic career,” the singer said.
