Organization of newly elected Belarusian parliament's work discussed

MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has asked Vladimir Andreichenko, who was elected member of the seventh-convocation House of Representatives of the National Assembly, to help organize the work of the newly elected lower chamber of the parliament. The head of state made the request as he met with Vladimir Andreichenko on 5 December, BelTA has learned. The newly elected MP Valery Mitskevich, who has worked as a deputy head of the Belarus President Administration up till now, was also present during the meeting.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “The parliament has been set up. But a great deal of work is ahead of us. I know less about it than you do. I am talking about organizational matters: people need their workstations, communications. People need to learn about their specific seat in the Oval Hall and how things are done over there. And a lot of other things.”

The head of state remarked that it is up to members of the parliament to elect the speaker and the deputy. “But I think if you fulfill my instructions now, it will be a big plus for your parliamentary portfolio,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that complicated work needs to be done to organize the operation of the new composition of the parliament and it is necessary to get things done with as few complaints as possible. “All the MPs are equal. Including the chairman and the deputy… Everyone has a lapel badge,” the head of state remarked. “Nevertheless, it is necessary to do everything properly without making things worse for someone and better for someone else.”

The president talked about what role veteran MPs should play. “They should act like guides and offer tips to first-time MPs. They should also make concessions in some things if necessary. Because there are equal conditions for everyone,” he noted.

Addressing Valery Mitskevich, the head of state remarked he is the most experienced lawyer in the newly elected parliament: “Without any exaggeration. You've climbed all the steps of the ladder. You've worked in the hottest position in the Belarus President Administration. You should take care of the legal side and the content of the work. If someone wants to talk, you should help them learn about the juridical policy of our state, about jurisprudence as a whole, about the development of these bills. I am sure a lot of rookie MPs will be interested in it.”

Head of the Belarus President Administration Natalya Kochanova was also present during the meeting. Aleksandr Lukashenko stated he had decided to send her to work in the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus. “You should get involved in whatever capacity,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

According to the head of state, Natalya Kochanova will keep her current functions and authority until her replacement is fully familiar with the job. “I've told her she won't be able to rest over there. Because she will have to seriously work with the Belarus President Administration and work as a plenipotentiary for the city of Minsk,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.

If Vladimir Andreichenko is elected chairman of the House of Representatives, he will continue overseeing Vitebsk Oblast. “We have a lot of work to do there. Including what we've agreed on: we have to start from the bottom and form a normal situation in the countryside in Vitebsk Oblast. Starting with human resources and their education and consequent employment. Without specialists there will be no work there,” the head of state pointed out.

“At least I would very much like you to be entrusted [with positions of power in the newly elected House of Representatives of the National Assembly],” the head of state told Vladimir Andreichenko and Valery Mitskevich. “Because he is a lawyer, the best one there is, and you are an experienced, calm, and balanced person. But it is up to MPs to decide.”
