MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) – The West was hatching the plans to “remove the Belarusian president from the political agenda” with the help of Lithuania, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a ceremony to mark the Day of People’s Unity at Minsk Arena on 17 September, BelTA has learned.
"The plan was crafted by the self-exiled opposition. They were impatient to squeeze the Belarusian president out of the political arena. According to the plan, Lithuania was supposed to initiate the Belarusian issue in the International Criminal Court in The Hague, as it was the case on the eve or in the first days of Russia's Special Military Operation in Ukraine. The idea was to bring the Belarusian president to court and remove him from the agenda so that he did not have a chance to participate in Ukraine peace negotiations, should they start. They know that we demand that the interests of Belarus be respected when a peace treaty is concluded with Ukraine. They do not want to see our representation there," the head of state said.
"I want them to hear me today, from this high rostrum. We are aware of all their plans. They will not succeed. They will not be able to repeat what happened in 2020. We are the people who learn lessons from the past," the Belarusian leader stressed.
