Lukashenko: We will perish if we don’t work hard

GRODNO, 2 April (BelTA) – If Belarusians do not work hard, they will perish. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement during a working trip to Grodno on 2 April, BelTA has learned.

The president stressed that the Belarusian government had enabled opportunities for people to develop and earn money. Figuratively speaking, Belarusians have been given a fishing rod but people themselves should go out and fish, put some back into it in order to enjoy decent living standards.

“If we don’t work hard, we will perish,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed. “The key thing is opportunities. The state is supposed to offer opportunities.”

These words are particularly true for young Belarusians. The president pointed out that for instance, all the conditions and opportunities are available in the country for school students from various families to go to higher education institutions and get a university degree. A system has been worked out to provide knowledge and objectively evaluate the performance of students in order to select capable applicants for higher education institutions. “We do everything to give you opportunities. And since you have opportunities, you have to take it from here,” he said.

Another example is support for large families. Belarusian large families are granted an opportunity to build a house and get a land plot, including for the sake of private subsidiary farming and for the sake of teaching the kids how to work. Unfortunately, in some cases these land plots around single-family houses are left untended.
