Lukashenko wants to make Belarus-Russia integration irreversible

MOSCOW, 14 March (BelTA) – It is our historic mission to make the integration process between Belarus and Russia irreversible, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he addressed the Federation Council during his official visit to the Russian Federation on 14 March, BelTA has learned.

“It is our historic mission to make the process of Belarusian-Russian integration irreversible. We will accomplish this mission,” the head of state emphasized.

In furtherance of the topic, the president commented on the ‘noise’ in connection with the appointment of a new government in Belarus. “Why? We have a new prime minister, smart ministers. This is a new generation as I promised,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “I delivered on my promise.”

He recalled that for several years a new generation of government official has been trained to work in the state system. This is the systemic work. Many promising officials were sent to work in local or regional administrations to gain practical experience in addition to their theoretical knowledge of the economy. One of such representatives of the new generation is the current Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin. In general, the entire new government is made up of representatives of the new generation.

“These are the people devoted to our policy. They know what Russia is. They know our common market - we sell more than half [of our products] to Russia. Markets are the main thing,” the head of state said.
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, Belarus has declared a five-year period of quality and is planning to “fine-tune the economy”. Drawing an analogy, the president added: “We need to fine-tune our relations [between Belarus and Russia in the Union State]. We need to create [such a union] that Belarusians, being on this rift [geopolitical one between the East and the West] would not want to look West.”
