Lukashenko urges more active land reclamation in Mogilev Oblast

KOSTYUKOVICHI DISTRICT, 10 August (BelTA) – President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has ordered to step up land reclamation works in Mogilev Oblast during a visit to Kostyukovichi District on 10 August, BelTA has learnt.

Top on the agenda of the visit was socioeconomic development of the region and the harvesting season, as well as the prospects of the cement industry.

Talking about land management in the region the head of state said, “There is a lot of land here that should be reclaimed as soon as possible. At first you should deal with the land that is not overgrown yet, after that (maybe, in the next five-year period) you should switch to totally neglected land”. The President urged to try various methods to improve land management.

The head of state also ordered to revise the criteria of allocating funds to the areas affected by the Chernobyl disaster to make sure the funds are fairly distributed among the regions.

Talking with the Mogilev Oblast administration, the President focused on the development of the southeastern part of the region. Alexander Lukashenko stated that this part of the oblast is lagging behind and should find ways to catch up with other regions.
