MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) – The seeds of ideas about “exceptionalism” and claims to “the ultimate truth” have once again sprouted in the minds of a number of politicians, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he was accepting credentials from ambassadors of foreign countries, BelTA has learned.
“I would not mention the second event on such a solemn occasion, were it not for the increasing analogies between today’s alarming trends and the events of the 1930s, which led to tragic consequences for the entire planet, including Belarus,” stated Aleksandr Lukashenko.
The head of state remarked: “Unfortunately, the seeds of ideas about some kind of ‘exceptionalism’ and claims to ‘ultimate truth’ have once again taken root among many Western and pro-Western politicians. A repetition of history – building a real ‘iron curtain’ in the middle of Europe – would be farcical, if it were not for the sanctions war and the unchecked militarization of the EU.”
Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that these processes have forced the world’s most critical global problems – including food, energy, climate, and environmental security, and the elimination of poverty, inequality, and ineffective resource management – not even into the background, but nearly off the agenda.
“This, along with other systemic problems such as increasing the UN’s role and effectiveness and forging new approaches to global governance, is now being discussed not in Europe, but at other venues,” the president said.
In this context, he referenced the recent SCO summit in Tianjin, the virtual BRICS meeting, and the gathering of African interstate associations. “In Belarus, you will find a responsible partner for work on both this and the bilateral agenda,” the Belarusian leader assured.
