MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – In his annual Address to Belarusian People and the National Assembly on 28 January Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said how long he is going to continue as the president, BelTA has learned.
“Everything will depend on the situation. If they throw us into a war, what kind of elections can we talk about, what will I have to do? I will grab a machine gun and take the lead if necessary, although it would be wrong. The president is also a commander-in-chief. And I will act accordingly,” the Belarusian leader said.
He went on saying: “If everything is quiet and peaceful, then I can step down any time. Yet, I will be there for backup: if you need my help, I will do what I can. I declare my plans honestly, publicly for the whole country, for the whole world.”
