MINSK, 29 August (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko spoke about his main motivation for work in an interview with China Media Group, BelTA has learned.
“I often say about it. Although my colleagues and those, who work with me, tell me I shouldn’t do it. I say that I am an accidental president. It is true. As I start recalling the past and evaluating all of it, I wonder how the nation dared elect me, an experienced person, president back then. Certainly, I appreciate it. And it is the key stimulus in my work. I must not fail those, who stand with me today. And I cannot fail my nation,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

Every president should have this feeling of responsibility, he said. “But I should have it particularly, because the nation took the risk of electing me. I owe it to the nation. I still owe a lot. I guess I haven’t repaid everything I owe to the nation. I will keep doing it as long as I draw breath,” he stressed. “Well, one has to love his people, his nation. One must not fail them. If you have this responsibility of a leader, then the God will also help you.”
