DUSHANBE, 10 October (BelTA) – U.S. President Donald Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told journalists of the Channel One Russia on the sidelines of the CIS summit, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko was asked whether he agrees with the Nobel Committee’s decision on the Nobel Peace Prize award. Reportedly, the prize was given to the Venezuelan opposition politician Maria Corina Machado although Donald Trump was often mentioned among the contenders.
“Sheer nonsense. Trump has earned this Nobel Prize, it should have been awarded to him,” Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced.
The head of state pointed out that lately the Nobel Peace Prize has been given to “absolutely anyone”. “Particularly, let me remind you of the U.S. president [the reference is to Barack Obama, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in October 2009], who had done nothing at all. He became the president and got this prize,” he said.

At the same time Aleksandr Lukashenko believes that Donald Trump has done a lot for peace while the Nobel Committee has done a disservice to the peace process in various parts of the world. “Trump might get offended,” the Belarusian leader added.
In the president’s words, the Nobel Committee should have given the Peace Prize to the White House leader in recognition of future accomplishments. This would have “bound” Donald Trump to the peace process. However, the Committee has made a “short-sighted decision,” the Belarusian leader concluded.
