Lukashenko names main goal in cooperation with Vietnam

MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) – The main goal in cooperation between Belarus and Vietnam is to intensify interaction in the economic sector, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the talks with General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam in Minsk on 12 May, BelTA has learned.

“The main goal is to intensify our steps in the economy, the trade and economic sector. This means the resumption of regular deliveries of Belarusian agricultural, truck and mining machinery to Vietnam. I am confident in the good prospects of joint production of Belarusian tractors and automotive equipment,” the head of state said.

In his words, the parties have recently made progress on many issues. For example, an agreement on mutual visa waiver for national passport holders came into force this year. Just a month ago, a meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation was held in Hanoi.

The head of state is confident that the implementation of joint scientific and technical projects, the use of their results for economic benefits, as well as the exchange of the latest technologies will make it possible to improve the security of Belarus and Vietnam.

“In 2024, relations between the two countries were further strengthened by the development of people-to-people diplomacy through youth, public organizations, experts, and media structures. We hope for the continuation of this positive trend. Education, culture, sports, and tourism remain priority areas,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“No topics are off-limits for our countries. We are ready to do everything you need, everything you find interesting during your visit, as well as future visits of high officials, representatives of your country,” the Belarusian leader said.

Speaking about strategic partnership, Aleksandr Lukashenko said that Vietnam's foreign policy doctrine views it as a special, advanced level of relations. “We have agreed to move in this direction. Although 10 years ago, in 2015, I told the leadership of your country in Hanoi that Vietnam was our strategic partner. It is our reliable friend in Southeast Asia,” the head of state said. “This goes in line with the course we have chosen, which is to jointly and consistently develop mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries.”
