Lukashenko contemplates production of Belarusian cars

BORISOV DISTRICT, 19 January (BelTA) – Belarus is now ready to pour max effort into the production of Belarusian cars. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement while talking to employees of the car factory SZAO BelGee, BelTA has learned.

The head of state said: “The enterprise is mature. Let’s not overpraise ourselves. We have yet to go a long way [in manufacturing localization] in order to stop importing components from all over the world and primarily from China, which is friendly to us. We thank them for helping us create such an enterprise. Now we are mature enough in order to make as Belarusian cars as possible. We’ve seen a number of components our enterprises have decided to make.”

“In the future we have to build a body shop here just like we intended back when we were inaugurating the car factory and make car bodies here. I don’t think there is a single company in the world that makes all the components of aircraft or automobiles in one country… Lots of manufacturing cooperation. Manufacturing cooperation for the long run. But since the world has gone crazy, competition goes as far as combat operations. We have to count primarily on friendly countries,” Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked.

The production of automobiles powered by pure electricity is one of the key global trends now. These vehicles include not only electric vehicles but also hybrids.

“The world also demonstrates to us how we should advance. And we have determined that we should follow down this path by modernizing and improving this manufacturing facility,” the Belarusian leader noted. “Certainly, we will facilitate the development and modernization of this enterprise. A shop to cast plastic goods is the next in the pipeline. We will build it here. Other enterprises will make the things that we won’t make. The advantage of our system is that virtually all of them are state-run enterprises. And if someone over there strays off course, we make adjustments in order to achieve end results.”

In conclusion Aleksandr Lukashenko explained that as far as manufacturing localization in the course of making Belarusian automobiles is concerned, all the possible things will be made while making sure these products are competitive.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “We will move only forward from now on! We will make the automobiles that sell well and those you make now. The purpose of my arrival is the perspective. As long as I am the president, we will not abandon this car factory. It is partially my child. We are going to improve it, grow it, train it, and so on. It is our legacy. We have made it and we will move forward.”

The president thanked the company’s management and workers for doing a lot at this stage in order to make people line up to buy these cars.

“We will support you by all means. You just have to work honestly and be disciplined,” the head of state assured. He also said he would like to see continuity in the factory’s manpower: “Encourage your children to seek employment here. So that they could grow, become engineers and executives here. We need it very much.”
