Lukashenko comments on Zelensky's refusal to send delegation to Gomel for talks

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – It is such a shame, but it is their choice, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media commenting on Zelensky's refusal to send a delegation for talks to Gomel. The president made this statement after casting his ballot at the referendum on the updated Constitution of Belarus on 27 February, BelTA has learned.

The news about Zelensky's refusal came as the Belarusian leader was answering reporters' questions after he voted in the referendum.

“Poor Putin. They keep suggesting and then canceling talks. To be honest, I feel sorry for him. Yesterday I told him: Listen, you should come. He said: They won't come. I said: Well, if they don't come, this will be their choice. And so it happened. Well, how shall we talk to them [Ukrainian authorities]? Yesterday they promised that they would come. He sends a delegation on a plane, we take them to Gomel. They [the Ukrainian side] refuse, if this news is true,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The head of state is sure that Volodymyr Zelensky's decisions depend on external forces: “Do you think it was Volodymyr Zelensky who took the decision? No, he just voiced it. Or someone else voiced it. They won't let him do it!”

“If he tries to act on his own, he will be thrown out of the bunker and will end up near some MLRS on Pobeditelei Avenue in Kyiv. That is all. That is their policy. It is their choice. It is a shame, such a shame!” the head of state added.
