Lukashenko comments on youth associations in Belarus

MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) - Interesting activities, not a formal approach, is what matters most when working with young people. At the same time, each organization should promote its own activities, without duplicating the functions of others, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with members of the National Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions on 13 February, BelTA has learned.

“As they say: “Not everyone should be a member of the BRSM Youth Union.” And, naturally, not everyone will make part of it. A person might simply not want to join the organization, or else. The BRSM Youth Union, in its place, should compete for every its member. This does not mean they should come, tell fairy tales or force people to join. This should be done through interesting, informal activities. This should not be done just for the president or someone else to watch on TV. There is no place for formalities here,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.

The head of state also commented on the activities of various youth associations, including those based on the BRSM, trade unions, student councils at universities and others: “We need everyone to do their job. We do not need any duplication. The scope of work should be divided between the BRSM, the trade union, and the student council, each one having its own duties. Then there will be no duplication. They should work together, under the guidance of the rector.”
