MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) - Belarus is willing to have a dialogue with the European Union, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media on 26 January, BelTA has learned.
“We have never been against relations with the West. We have always been ready to do so. But they don't want it. So what should we do? Should we bow down before them or beg for their favor? If they respond to our proposal, we are ready to engage in dialogue with the European Union, even with those who pursued hostile policy against us,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The president emphasized: “We were once at war with Germany. Until recently we had good relations. Certainly, we have not forgotten the crimes committed by the fascists on our land. We have not forgotten it. This is very important in the run-up to the 80th anniversary of the Victory over fascism. Belarus lost every third citizen in the war and we remember this."
We found an opportunity to cooperate with you. There was cooperation until they stopped it, the head of state noted.
Aleksandr Lukashenko stated that everything can be restored: “We have always been ready to cooperate with the EU. Believe me, the main thing here is not the economy or trade. They decided to shut us off. So be it. The market does not tolerate a void. Others will come to fill the void.”
The head of state pointed out that the situation in Germany, which had been among the world's top three, changed significantly for the worse.
“If you want to have a dialogue with us, we are open to it,” the president summarized.
