MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – There were attempts to alienate Belarus from China, but Belarus never betrayed this country, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Party Secretary of Peking University Hao Ping and representatives of other Chinese universities on 25 June, BelTA has learned.
“There was a time when they tried to tear Belarus away from China. They promised us a lot. Yet, we never broke faith with China. It was 5-6 years ago. We said that we would always cooperate with China. And we promised Mr. Xi Jinping to help promote China’s interests in Europe, if needed. China cannot do without Europe. China is a giant country, it sets the tone in the world. Therefore, it needs to cooperate with the powerhouses of our planet - the USA, the European Union, Russia, India, some other countries. Thus, we are ready to offer you all kinds of support in promoting your interests in the European Union. A lot has already been done on this front,” the president said.
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, he has known President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping for a long time, even before he became the head of state. “He came to Minsk. We had a detailed and lengthy discussion of international problems, and where our countries stood on this or that matter. I told him back then that China would soon set the tone in the world. That’s exactly what happened,” noted the president.
The head of state recalled that he visited China when he was an MP and predicted a great future for this country. Almost no one believed in this back then, but time has shown that Aleksandr Lukashenko was right.
“Since I became president three decades ago, we have been persistently and consistently building our friendship. We maintain good relations with the leadership of the PRC. You invest a lot in those areas where we do not have advanced technology, you set up enterprises boasting cutting-edge solutions, there are only 4-5 such enterprises in the world. One of them is the Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation; this is one of the industry leaders. This company is growing consistently. China helps us a lot with defense and security. “We work together on many issues,” the Belarusian leader added.
