MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told scientists and participants of Belarusian Antarctic expeditions during the meeting on 17 October how he jokingly invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit the North Pole together. This part of the meeting was aired on the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
It is for the second time that Aleksandr Lukashenko has expressed his wish with to visit the icy continent together with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
“If I have such an opportunity, I will go there with great pleasure. Putin has already offered me to go to the North Pole. I said: ‘Let’s go there together’. Putin told me that he was ready to give me an airplane to go there. I replied that I would go there only together with him. We had discussed the matter before. I suggested we went there some day. It will be easier for us to travel to the North Pole. It would be great to visit Antarctica, too,” the head of state said.
