BelTA employees contribute to reforestation effort in Stolbtsy District

A number of employees of the Belarusian Telegraph Agency (BelTA) took part in the nationwide campaign “Forest! Good! Order!”. Participants of the campaign went to plant tree saplings in a forest in Stolbtsy District. The common cause brought together employees of the news agency and specialists of the Stolbtsy forestry enterprise. Details of today’s event are covered by a report from Stolbtsy District.

Before planting the trees the BelTA employees went to the town of Stolbtsy to lay flowers at a communal grave of Soviet army warriors and partisans, who died in defense of the Motherland during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. After that the team went to the forest where workers of various departments of the news agency had to plant young trees together.

“Our collective has worked in Stolbtsy District for two years. Although today is a working day, a large team of about 50 people has come for the event. We’ve planted about 10,000 saplings in an area of 2 hectares – pine trees and fir trees. We will come here again. BelTA will plant the forest every year,” BelTA Director General Irina Akulovich noted.
After splitting in pairs, the workers planted the young trees. One worker used a special tool to make a hole in the soil while the other worker placed saplings into the holes. The intended amount of work was completed within several hours.

“It is symbolic that the BelTA collective went to plant trees on 26 April, an anniversary of the tragedy at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Because the forest is lungs, the health of our planet. We’ve touched this health in order to restore it,” BelTA Deputy Director General Dmitry Mozgo remarked.

Young specialists worked alongside experienced reporters. Artyom Apanovich has been part of BelTA’s staff for less than a year. “Such events represent an excellent opportunity to meet with colleagues in an informal setting, to better get to know each other. Working in such conditions and with such a team is a pleasure,” the reporter stressed.
Head of BelTA’s Advertising and Marketing Department Marta Olkhovskaya shared her impressions as well: “It is the second year I’ve participated in such events together with BelTA. I am very proud to be a small part of the huge team that makes a contribution to forest restoration. In addition to benefiting the nature such events represent a unique opportunity to spend some quality time and communicate with each other.”
After a job well done the BelTA employees went to the commemorative homestead Akinchitsy where the great Belarusian writer Yakub Kolas was born in 1882. The homestead includes a restored house, a barn, a well, and a cellar. The exhibits on display include articles of peasant’s everyday life, including analogs of those, which have not been preserved to the present day.
Today’s trip to Stolbtsy District ended with a lunch in a friendly company outdoors.
