Day of State Control Workers instituted in Belarus

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – On 9 April, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed a decree to introduce an addition to Presidential Decree No. 157 “On national holidays, public holidays, commemorative dates in the Republic of Belarus” as of 26 March 1998. The addition has established a new holiday – the Day of State Control Workers that will be marked on 2 August, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

On 2 August 1994 the Control Service of the Belarus President Administration was established (in 1995 it was transformed into the Control Service of the President of the Republic of Belarus). The successor to the first body of presidential control is the State Control Committee  that was established in 1996 by a presidential decree.

Today, the State Control Committee is the country's top financial watchdog. Its main task is to ensure the economic security of the state, to oversee the execution of the central budget and the use of state property. These tasks are spelled out in the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus.
