
MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) - For more than 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Belarus and Vietnam have achieved significant success in developing cooperation, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam said during talks with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 12 May, BelTA has learned.
According to To Lam, Vietnam closely observes Belarus’ development and rejoices in the country’s social and economic achievements under Aleksandr Lukashenko’s leadership. "I believe that with his experience and strategic vision, Belarus’ president will lead the country towards further national progress, social security and strengthened regional and global standing," he said.

To Lam noted that Belarus-Vietnam relations date back to the Soviet era. The first visit of President Ho Chi Minh in Belarus in 1957 gave special impetus to the bilateral relations. "Vietnam always remembers and remains grateful for the valuable support the Belarusian people provided to Vietnam in the struggle for independence and reunification, as well as in national construction and development," he emphasized.

The general secretary praised considerable progress Belarus and Vietnam have made in their cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic relations. He highlighted growing political trust and increasingly close cooperation in defense, security, science, technology, trade, investment, education, professional training, culture, and sports. According to To Lam, during the negotiations in Minsk, the leaders of both countries will discuss the current state of bilateral relations with trust and sincerity and agree on decisions aimed at promoting cooperation to bring it to a higher level of strategic partnership and to make it deeper, more practical and effective.
