MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) - It is important to uphold one's national interests and independence, although it might not be easy, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Slovakia to Belarus Jozef Migas said at a meeting of the Dialogue with the Ambassador club at the House of Friendship, BelTA has learned.
The diplomat emphasized that he was pleased with such events and the opportunity to interact with students, who were the main participants in the meeting. He detailed his journey to a diplomatic career. Notably, this is Jozef Migas' second time in Belarus as the Slovak ambassador, so he has firsthand knowledge of the country. His first diplomatic mission in Belarus was from 2016 to 2020, and nearly five years later, he has returned to Minsk.

The dialogue featured various topics, including the importance of preserving the sovereignty and independence of one's country. “Uphold your interests, your independence, your values, and your right to a free state. It is difficult to defend, but necessary,” Jozef Migas said, addressing the youth.
The conversation touched on the international situation and the development of cooperation between Belarus and Slovakia. The ambassador regrettably noted that due to sanctions against our country, the Belarusian-Slovak trade has significantly decreased. “What we built up until 2020 has been lost. And that is unacceptable,” the head of the Slovak diplomatic mission stressed.
The event featured a performing arts group that participated in the 31st Folklore Festival in Harichovce, the Spišská Nová Ves region of Slovakia, and also the folk song ensemble Charnitsa from Zaslavl.
Students from the Belarusian State University, Belarusian National Technical University, Belarusian State Economic University, and other Minsk universities participated in the club meeting.
