MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) - Only dialogue, exchange of opinions and reconciliation of positions will allow solving the problems facing the OSCE, Oleg Rummo, member of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, said on the margins of the 24th Winter Meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, BelTA has learned.

“During the plenary meetings of the session, Belarus made its position very clear: the Belarusian people have the sovereign right to determine the vector of further development. We emphasized that the current sanctions, which not only affect the lives of people in Belarus, but also place restrictions on the entire European Union, are unacceptable and contradict all existing international norms,” Oleg Rummo stated.

Only dialogue, exchange of opinions and reconciliation of positions can help address the problems facing the OSCE, he remarked. “The 50th anniversary of this organization once again confirms that it has been working effectively all this time. But in order to keep it working, bringing benefits in a multipolar world and responding to all existing challenges, we need to improve our work: we need to hear, listen and, based on what we have learned, develop common positions,” he emphasized.

The delegation of the National Assembly of Belarus to the OSCE PA headed by Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives Sergei Rachkov is taking part in the 24th Winter Meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Vienna, Austria on 20-21 February. The program of the event includes sessions of the Standing Committee of the OSCE PA and three general committees on Political Affairs and Security, on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment, and on Democracy, Human Rights and Humanitarian Questions, as well as joint meetings of the above committees. Members of the Belarusian delegation are scheduled to make speeches on the agenda of the OSCE PA Winter Meeting, and to hold meetings with MPs of the OSCE participating states.
