Rachkov speaks about international contacts of Belarus’ MPs

MINSK, 4 April (BelTA) – Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Sergei Rachkov told reporters about inter-parliamentary contacts of Belarusian deputies, BelTA has learned.

“Amid geopolitical turbulence and the continued aggressive pressure of the collective West on Belarus and Russia, work in the CSTO PA is gaining on new significance. Our delegations have worked and, I am sure, will continue to work very actively in the CSTO PA. We have nearly joined the club of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. We suggest building a parliamentary dimension in the SCO. Such a dimension is already taking shape in BRICS. Our country plans to join BRICS. I think the efforts of Belarusian parliamentary diplomacy to create a parliamentary dimension in the SCO and step up work in BRICS are timely, relevant and important,” said Sergei Rachkov.

According to him, Belarus will promote bilateral parliamentary diplomacy. “We will work with those countries that are interested in inter-parliamentary cooperation, and there are plenty of them. We will stick to the foreign policy of our country that was determined by the president, and will pay more attention to the so-called far-arc countries. The Republic of Belarus can greatly benefit from such cooperation, primarily in the economy. Parliamentarians have the necessary experience and tools to promote Belarus’ economic interests in these countries. They include countries in Africa, Asia. Logistics is very important for us now; we will uphold the creation of the North-South International Transport Corridor as this will help us to ship more goods to the Arab world and further to Africa and Asia,” the MP explained.

“These are, of course, extremely difficult tasks, but deputies of the House of Representatives and, in general, members of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus are capable of addressing them. I think we will fulfill these tasks within our term in parliament,” added Sergei Rachkov.
