MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) - Russia is grateful to Belarus for its assistance in the peace process with Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin said as he took questions from journalists during a meeting with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko on Valaam Island, BelTA learned.

“We are deeply grateful to Aleksandr Grigorievich and to Belarus for the support and assistance they have provided us [in the negotiation process]. We maintain constant contact, and I regularly update Aleksandr Grigorievich on the negotiation outcomes. All our exchanges have taken place on Belarusian territory. The negotiation process began there in 2022 before relocating to Istanbul,” Vladimir Putin stated.

The Russian president acknowledged his clear understanding of the Belarusian president’s position and that of the Belarusian people, who aspire to see peace between Russia and Ukraine established as soon as possible: “Aleksandr Grigorievich is directly and personally involved in this effort.”
