SAINT PETERSBURG, 22 December (BelTA) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for continued joint efforts across the Commonwealth of Independent States to combat the falsification of history. He made this statement at an informal meeting of CIS leaders in St. Petersburg, BelTA has learned.

“We must continue our joint efforts to preserve the memory of our shared history and prevent its falsification,” Vladimir Putin declared. “We must do everything possible to ensure that young people know about the heroic deeds of our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents, who, at the cost of countless sacrifices, achieved Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the 80th anniversary of which we all celebrated this year.”
In this context, he highlighted the Russian initiative to publish a collection of unique archival materials dedicated to the contribution of each former Soviet republic to the defeat of Nazism. The collection contains digitized copies of previously unpublished documents and photographs.
