MINSK, 10 January (BelTA) – There may be progress on setting up a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump only after the U.S. President-elect takes office, Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a briefing for the press, RIA Novosti informs.
He noted that there were no specific plans for a meeting yet, but Russia is working on the assumption that both sides were open to it. "Apparently, after Mr Trump enters the Oval Office, there will be some movement," he added.
"No conditions are required for this, (only) a mutual desire and political will to conduct a dialogue and resolve existing problems through dialogue is required," TASS quoted Dmitry Peskov as saying.
“We see that Mr Trump also declares his readiness to resolve problems through dialogue, we welcome this," the Kremlin spokesman said.
In remarks to the press in Florida on 9 January Donald Trump said he was preparing to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “President Putin wants to meet. He has said that even publicly,” Trump said.
