MPs of Belarus, China discuss cooperation prospects

MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) - Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko held a meeting with a parliamentary delegation from China led by Zhang Qingwei, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, on 14 June. The parties discussed prospects for developing interparliamentary cooperation and deepening the strategic partnership between Belarus and China, BelTA has learned.

According to Igor Sergeyenko, the recent visit of the Belarusian leader to China and the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping were evidence of the special relations between the two countries. “Belarusian MPs sincerely rejoice in China's successes. We cherish your ideals – the rule of law, justice, patriotism, national unity, dedication, honesty and friendship,” the speaker emphasized.

The head of the lower house of parliament praised the work of the High-Level Committee on Cooperation between the Legislative Bodies of the two countries and expressed confidence that the second meeting of the committee in Minsk would yield concrete results. He also suggested continuing the practice of exchanging experience in legislative and international activities, including through online seminars.

Particular attention was paid to cooperation within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS Parliamentary Forum. Belarus confirmed its interest in developing the parliamentary dimension of the SCO and its intention to promote the idea of creating an Interparliamentary Assembly.

Zhang Qingwei thanked his Belarusian colleagues for their warm welcome and conveyed sincere greetings on behalf of the Chairman of the National People's Congress of China. “Mr. Chairman, you are actively promoting Chinese-Belarusian friendship and cooperation and making a positive contribution to the development of our relations. We greatly appreciate this,” he said.

He emphasized that China and Belarus have been on the path of mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation for 33 years. Thanks to the strategic leadership of Xi Jinping and Aleksandr Lukashenko, bilateral relations have reached the highest level—an all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership. “The National People's Congress of China is ready to further strengthen ties with the House of Representatives of Belarus, guided by the agreements of our leaders,” Zhang Qingwei said.

The parties agreed to continue constructive dialogue and promote practical cooperation between Belarus and China.
