MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) - The House of Representatives hosted an online meeting (a video conference) of member of the Standing Committee on Industry, Fuel and Energy Sector, Transport and Communications of the House of Representatives, head of the working group of the National Assembly of Belarus on cooperation with the Parliament of the Federative Republic of Brazil Andrei Strunevsky with member of the House of Deputies of the National Congress of Brazil, chairperson of the parliamentary group Brazil-Belarus Vinicius de Rapozo Carvalho on 10 February, BelTA has learned.
The main topic of the meeting was the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Brazil. The parties also discussed development of trade relations between the two countries.
“The trade and economic relations between Belarus and Brazil have been stable over so many years. Brazil is among the top 10 countries with which Belarus cooperates. In 2020 the trade amounted to $720 million. We are showing a trade surplus: more exports than imports. Belarus' main exports to Brazil are potash, nitrogen and compound fertilizers. We import coffee, nuts, fruit from Brazil. We have some projects that have not yet been completed. We have agreed that our relations in supplying yarns and fibers for tire production in Brazil will enter a new stage. We are ready to complete the construction of a cement plant in Brazil. We considered the ways to assemble electric buses in Brazil. We also raised education issues. We have already signed agreements between Brazilian and Belarusian institutes. Brazilian students can study in Belarus. There are not many of them yet. Only eight students are studying here right now,” said Andrei Strunevsky.
The MP said that the two countries have prospects for cooperation in the tourism sector.
“There are a lot of projects. In fact, 30 years is not so long, but it is encouraging that we understand each other and count on mutual support in various issues,” the MP said.
