Moscow to host CIS foreign ministers on 7 October


MOSCOW, 2 October (BelTA) - Moscow will host a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers on 7 October, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing for the press in Moscow on 2 October, BelTA has learned.

"On 7 October, a regular meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council will be held in Moscow under the chairmanship of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov," Maria Zakharova said.

According to her, the foreign ministers of the CIS member states are expected to sum up the preliminary results of joint work in the context of the priorities of Russia's chairmanship in the CIS in 2024, discuss the prospects for multifaceted cooperation in the CIS, including deepening economic integration, countering challenges and threats, and expanding cultural and humanitarian ties. "Particular attention will be paid to preparations for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War," the diplomat said. An exchange of views on current international and regional topics is also planned.

"Following the meeting, the parties are set to make a number of decisions to boost cooperation in the law enforcement, humanitarian ties, and improve foreign policy coordination within the CIS. It is assumed that the ministers will approve the plan of multi-level ministerial consultations for 2025 and agree on the date and place of the next meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council," Maria Zakharova informed.

"Most of the approved documents will be submitted for subsequent consideration by the CIS Heads of State Council and the CIS Heads of Government Council," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman added.
