MINSK, 12 August (BelTA) – The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Belarusians to be cautious when seeking employment abroad following media reports about Belarusians freed from forced labor in Spain, BelTA has learned.
“The Belarusian Embassy in Madrid is in contact with Spanish law enforcement agencies. If the media reports are confirmed and assistance is required, Belarusian citizens will be provided with comprehensive consular and legal support. The Belarusian MFA once again urges citizens to be cautious when seeking employment abroad, to verify information about potential employers and job conditions,” the ministry emphasized.
The ministry stressed that Belarusian embassies and consulates are ready to assist and support citizens who find themselves in difficult situations abroad.
“In every country where our diplomatic missions operate, there is an emergency hotline for citizens of the Republic of Belarus. Before any trip abroad, regardless of its purpose, we advise checking the location of the nearest Belarusian embassy or consulate and saving their contact details for quick access to diplomatic assistance, if necessary,” the MFA recommended.
The ministry noted that responsible trip preparation and knowing where to seek help are key to safe travel and a successful return home.
Earlier, media reported that Spain’s Civil Guard and Spain’s Customs Control Service had dismantled a criminal organization involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit and smuggled tobacco products in the provinces of Malaga, Cordoba and Seville. According to the reports, the operation freed 18 individuals of various nationalities, including citizens of Belarus, China and Vietnam, who had been forced to work in inhumane conditions.
