NIZHNY NOVGOROD, 26 June (BelTA) – Our civilizational DNA, our common spirituality is the most important thing that unites Belarus and Russia, Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko said on the sidelines of the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in Nizhny Novgorod.
Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko and Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova met with young representatives of Russia and Belarus on the sidelines of the 12th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in Nizhny Novgorod.
“I don’t want to dwell on trivial things that the future of the country is in your hands (which is true). I think that the most important thing that unites us is our common civilizational DNA, our common spirituality. Yes, of course, this is also economic and investment cooperation. But first and foremost, it's our kinship. It is very important to transfer this knowledge to young people and help it root it in the minds of young people,” Valentina Matviyenko said. “This is why we have chosen the theme of youth for this very important forum which involves almost all subjects of the Russian Federation and all regions of Belarus. In this hall we see young, beautiful, smiling faces. The best faces of our countries.”

In fact, the young people present in this hall are the Union State’s peers, the speaker noted. “We recently celebrated 25 years. And you were born and raised in this atmosphere of brotherhood and alliance. Here are young MPs of Russia and Belarus, participants of the largest public and youth organizations. All those who represent the youth agenda.
The Chamber of Young Legislators under the Federation Council is widely represented at this forum. When we established it, we did not even think that it would be such an effective body under the upper house of the Russian parliament. We are preparing a new generation of parliamentarians. It is important that this agenda is in demand in our international contacts, our international relations,” she said.
“What is the most important thing for a parliamentarian, for a civil servant, for a public figure? Work for achieving a certain result. This is very important,” Valentina Matviyenko added.
The Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia kicked off in Nizhny Novgorod on 25 June. Its main program took place in the Russian city on 26 June. The Forum of Regions aims to strengthen trade, economic, scientific, educational and cultural ties between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation. Its focus is on expanding business contacts and developing promising areas of bilateral cooperation.
The organizers of the forum are the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
