Kosachev appointed coordinator of CIS IPA observation group at Belarus presidential election

MOSCOW, 19 December (BelTA) – Vice Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Konstantin Kosachev has been appointed coordinator of the observation group from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) at the presidential election in Belarus, BelTA learned from the CIS IPA press service. 

“By order of the Chairwoman of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev has been appointed coordinator of the group of international observers from the CIS IPA at the presidential election of the Republic of Belarus. At the moment, a group of observers is being formed from representatives of the parliaments of the CIS IPA member states, CIS IPA officials and also experts of the CIS IPA International Institute for Monitoring the Development of Democracy,” the press service said.  

The press service recalled that at a meeting of the CIS IPA Council, which was held at the organization's headquarters in November, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic of Natalya Kochanova invited a group of international observers from the CIS IPA to take part in monitoring the elections. 

“Given the vast experience of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in monitoring the preparation and conduct of elections and the unwavering authority of the organization, objectivity of its conclusions, I have the honor to invite, on behalf of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, the Interparliamentary Assembly to take part in the international observation of the election of the President of the Republic of Belarus,” Natalya Kochanova said at the time.
